Rockingham County offers a wide variety of public recreation spaces.

Rockingham County, North Carolina has more than 20 public parks offering a variety of activities for the whole family from playgrounds, walking trails, a disc golf course, tennis courts, championship baseball and softball fields, soccer fields, volleyball courts, paddle boating and picnic/event facilities

Walking Trails & Greenways  

Rockingham County has around 20 walking trails and greenways spread throughout the entire area.  Most of our public parks include trails and tracks.  The county is currently developing Rockingham County Pathways, a comprehensive plan for trails and greenways.

There is also a riverside walking trail that runs along the serene Smith River, as well as trails for both hiking and walking at the Haw River and Mayo River State Parks.

One unique trail in this area is the Chinqua-Penn Walking Trail that is located next to the Upper Piedmont Research Station in the beautiful countryside.   And Reidsville has begun the development of the Reidsville Greenway with its first segment, the Jaycee Park Trail, and has three Downtown Reidsville Walking Routes.

Cycling Routes

Rockingham County's terrain is perfect for cycling.  With six designated cycling routes, the roads here provide varying degrees of difficulty for cyclists of all skill levels.

Stables and Horse Riding Centers


Rockingham County’s recreational amenities also include horse-riding centers and farms. 

These equestrian facilities offer stall rentals, riding lessons and even pony clubs for children.
